SUMMARY:World Kindness Day
DESCRIPTION:World Kindness Day is an international observance on 13th of November. It was introduced in 1998 by the World Kindness Movement a coalition of nations kindness NGOs. It is observed in many countries\, including Australia. The date decreed for World Kindness Day is 13th November. This was the opening day of the first World Kindness Movement® conference held at Tokyo in 1998\, and the 35th anniversary of the Small Kindness Movement of Japan\, which brought the signatories of the ‘declaration of kindness’ of the World Kindness Movement together in 1997. \nThe purpose of World Kindness Day is to look beyond ourselves\, beyond the boundaries of our country\, beyond our culture\, our race\, our religion; and realise we are citizens of the world. As world citizens we have a commonality\, and must realise that if progress is to be made in human relations and endeavours\, if we are to achieve the goal of peaceful coexistence\, we must focus on what we have in common. \nSaveSave

SUMMARY:Remembrance Day
DESCRIPTION:Remembrance Day (sometimes known informally as Poppy Day) is a memorial day observed in Commonwealth of Nations member states since the end of the First World War to remember the members of their armed forces who have died in the line of duty. Why is this day special to Australians?\nAt 11 am on 11 November 1918 the guns of the Western Front fell silent after more than four years of continuous warfare. The allied armies had driven the German invaders back\, having inflicted heavy defeats upon them over the preceding four months. In November the Germans called for an armistice (suspension of fighting) in order to secure a peace settlement. They accepted allied terms that amounted to unconditional surrender. \nThe 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month attained a special significance in the post-war years. The moment when hostilities ceased on the Western Front became universally associated with the remembrance of those who had died in the war.

SUMMARY:World Smile Day
DESCRIPTION:World Smile Day® is celebrated on the first Friday in the month of October every year. The idea of was coined and initiated by Harvey Ball\, a commercial artist from Worcester\, Massachusetts. He is known to have created the Smiley Face in 1963. \nAs the years passed Harvey Ball became concerned about the over-commercialization of his symbol\, and how its original meaning and intent had become lost in the constant repetition of the marketplace.  Out of that concern came his idea for World Smile Day®. He thought that we\, all of us\, should devote one day each year to smiles and kind acts throughout the world.  He declared that the first Friday in October each year would henceforth be World Smile Day®. Ever since that first World Smile Day® held in 1999\, it has continued every year in Smiley’s hometown of Worcester\, MA and around the world. \n \nSaveSave

SUMMARY:International Day of Friendship
DESCRIPTION:International Friendship Day is a day designed to foster friendships and bridge the gaps between race\, color\, religion and other factors which keep humans from enjoying friendship with one another. Today\, in such a global society\, it is imperative that the leaders of tomorrow respect\, include and understand world diversity. \nInternational Day of Friendship was proclaimed by the United Nations in 2011 with the intent of building communities and helping move towards world peace. The United Nations encourages governments\, groups and organisations to host activities and events that promote dialogue\, acceptance and understanding between people of different backgrounds.  This day is promoted by the UN as being observed July 30th\, but is celebrated on the first Sunday of August in many countries. \nSaveSave

SUMMARY:Teddy Bear Picnic and Pyjama Day
DESCRIPTION:Celebrated mainly in the United States\, Canada\, Australia\, and in some parts of Europe\, the origins of this unofficial holiday are unknown. It is also unclear what the holiday aims to achieve. It could be that the anonymous creators of the holiday wanted parents to encourage creativity among their children by taking them out for a whimsical picnic in the outdoors with their teddy bears and other stuffed toys. \nThe holiday owes its name to a song of the same name by American composer John Walter Bratton and Irish lyricist Jimmy Kennedy.

SUMMARY:NAIDOC Week (8th-15th)
DESCRIPTION:NAIDOC stands for National Aborigines and Islanders Day Observance Committee. Its origins can be traced to the emergence of Aboriginal groups in the 1920′s which sought to increase awareness in the wider community of the status and treatment of Indigenous Australians.Predominately\, NAIDOC Week is held in the first week (a Sunday to Sunday) of July that incorporates the second Friday – which historically was celebrated as ‘National Aboriginal Day’. \nIt is a time to celebrate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander history\, culture and achievements and is an opportunity to recognise the contributions that Indigenous Australians make to our country and society. The theme this year celebrates the essential role that women have played – and continue to play – as active and significant role models at the community\, local\, state and national levels \n. \n
